citizenM have implemented an ethos of environmental sustainability ambition into their business model. Building on this foundation, a core team within the company worked hard to develop an Environmental Management System (EMS), with the intention of attaining certification to the internationally recognised ISO14001 standard.
Acknowledging their experience level in this specific area, citizenM reached out to Anthesis for expert support in understanding their system’s status compared to each of the standard’s requirements.

Anthesis worked under a short deadline to review the documentation and processes in place which constituted citizenM’s management system. We then provided concise feedback on where they were already meeting requirements for the operations of the 32 hotels in scope.
We also offered tailored guidance on improvements and minor changes necessary to fully comply with the requirements of ISO14001:2015, including tips and advice based on years of practical experience in management of such systems.

Impacts of the Project
As a result of this process, citizenM have been able to prioritize actions to streamline and continuously improve their Environmental Management System in alignment with the hotel chain’s business ambitions, and are currently in the process of arranging audits to facilitate their system’s certification to ISO14001.
