Summary of role: The Senior Manager is responsible for developing, leading and growing profitable project management and contract delivery business streams which transform the built environment and organisations’ operations to be more energy and carbon efficient. This includes leading on strategic development, developing the team, building suppliers and contractor frameworks, growing the company profile, having overall operational and profit responsibility for project delivery, and ensuring all issues associated with health, safety, environment and quality are managed to an excellent standard. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in relevant technical disciplines whilst having demonstrated a successful team and business development track record. The Senior Manager will also build internal capacity for best practice consultative selling, project management, and for direct reports’ career and performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for Sustain’s project management offerings, including growing existing markets and developing new winning propositions that position Sustain competitively within the market.
  • Overall responsibility for the commercial performance of the area, including developing and managing budgets, overseeing the forecast of sales and delivery, ensuring the team has the capacity and capability to meet requirements.
  • Effective management and leadership of the team of sales, client and project contracts managers.
  • Developing an approved, high quality framework of contractors in a range of geographical areas who can deliver multiple energy conservation measures into a range of environments.
  • Supporting client engagements at senior levels in medium-to-large organisations resulting in valuable relationships.
  • Delivery of projects meeting all SHEQ (Safety, Health, the Environment, and Quality) requirements and client expectations.
  • Representation and speaking at industry events to build personal and company profile.
  • Building networks of potential clients utilising trade associations.
  • Active participation in the Senior Management Team, including briefings, capacity building and finance sessions to ensure open communication channels and awareness of critical activities.

Requirements

Qualifications/education level required

  • Experience of working in civil or mechanical and electrical engineering and project delivery associated with buildings in a senior role.
  • Experience of working in a ‘customer-led’ environment.
  • Track record of selling, leading to the acquisition and management of large clients.
  • Experience in performance driven line management.

Knowledge/expertise required

  • Knowledge of key elements of M&E building services (HVAC, lighting, BMS, renewable energy, storage etc.)
  • Excellent commercial understanding.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of project management, planning and organising.
  • Excellent working knowledge of financial methods, particularly profit and loss accounts and budgets.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Executive guidelines and changes therein to guide the Company’s compliance in H&S and those set out for clients.
