Setting Private Equity Net Zero Targets for Partners Group

Situation

In response to regulatory and stakeholder pressure, Partners Group sought to establish a set of credible net zero targets for its PE and Infra investment portfolios. After conducting a review of relevant target-setting methodologies, they concluded they should follow guidance of the Net Zero Investment Framework Component for Private Equity (NZIF for PE).

Solution

As lead authors of the guidance, Partners Group enlisted Anthesis to help them apply the methodology and develop an appropriate net zero target for their investments, which exceed $119 billion of invested capital.

Key services included:

• Developed a robust understanding of expected changes to the investment portfolio through 2030 through conversations with investment managers.
• Modelled the evolution of the portfolio through 2030 based on data and assumptions provided by Partners Group
• Assessed NZ Alignment for Projected Portfolio
• Assessed and modelled the feasibility of aligning assets with net zero criteria across their investment universe, reflecting on multiple decarbonization pathways and asset class trends.

We helped Partners Group set ambitious 2030 net zero targets for investments in PE and Infra that demonstrate Partners Groups’ commitment to contributing to real economy decarbonisation efforts and driving sustainable practices. We also provided a strategic glidepath for target achievement, charting annual milestones through 2030, and projecting forward to 2040.
