Situation
A European development finance institution commissioned us to conduct conflict-sensitive human rights due diligence on one of its investee companies: a garment factory in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, which had been the site of a conflict since late 2020.
Solution
We engaged with the client and local stakeholders to develop a responsible exit strategy and actionable mitigation measures to support the closing of the factory.
Impact
The roadmap and exit strategy produced by our consultants ensured that the institution could end operations in a manner congruent with the recommendations of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and the UNGPs.
