What is REACH?
REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals. REACH is a legislative regulation required to produce and sell products in the European Union (EU). The main objectives of REACH are to protect human and environmental health by understanding and managing the risks of chemicals.
Following the upcoming 2018 Registration deadline, the focus of REACH compliance will shift from the Registration of any chemical manufactured or imported at greater than 1 Mt, to requirements related to hazardous chemicals in the supply chain. Companies who manufacture and/or supply products that are imported into the EU need to understand the upcoming registration deadline as well as supply chain considerations related to substances on the Candidate, Authorization, and Restriction lists. These evolving requirements can have an impact on supply chain, and in some cases, will restrict the import or use of products that incorporate hazardous chemicals in the EU.
